Yellow jackets on outside of hive

Okay, so I've been using upside down icing buckets placed on top of my inner covers as my feeders. The last time I put a bucket on some of it spilled onto the inner cover and ran out to one corner of the hive and down the outside. Well, now there are tons of yellow jackets (I killed over 50 in a span of 15 minutes) on that back corner. They have tried very hard to get inside the hive body cover I put over the bucket, but I don't think any succeeded. I have since taken the feeder off and placed the top directly onto the inner cover, blocking any attempt at getting into the hive from that side. However, should I be concerned about them now trying to get into the hive from the front entrance?

As long as you have the entrance reduced it will not be a problem. You can continue to feed if needed, but if the hive has enough weight, I would stop feeding at present. The yellow jackets are not a real problem for your hive. They are just after any easy source of carbohydrate they can get right now. One good freeze and they will all be gone.

Great! Thank you for the info. I watched them yesterday for a while and the girls jumped on any yellow jacket that landed on the front of the hive. Go girls!!
