FW: BCBC Apiary Workshop at The Lord’s Acre, Oct 6th, Noon

Reply to mars1952@gmail.com with any questions.

Saturday, 10/06/2018, Noon-2PM at the BCBC Apiary at the Lord’s Acre:

At Saturday’s workshop, we will demonstrate the tip test to evaluate honey stores.  Everyone will have a chance to try it. Next, and most important, we will give all the hives and extra equipment a coat of paint and decorate the fronts of the hives so that it is easier for the bees (especially mated queens) to locate their own hives. I will close up the hives the night before so that the bees will all be penned up in the hives. After we paint the hives I will release the bees. The last thing we will do is feed the bees if we have decided that the bees still need more stores.

There will be lots of hands-on experience for new beekeepers!

All BCBC members and guests are welcome. Bring a can of old, any color, exterior or interior, latex or acrylic, paint and a narrow brush. Also, bring some water.  You probably will not need a veil this weekend.  Bring one if you are cautious!

Marshall Mullins, State Certified Beekeeper, Coordinator for the BCBC/Lord’s Acre Apiary,

New Schedule:

10/20/18 We will replace the IPM bottom boards on all of the hives with solid bottom boards and prepare the hives for colder weather. We will do inspection and evaluate honey stores by the tip test.

TBA Sometime this fall or early spring we will repair or rebuild some of our equipment.BCBC Apiary Workshop at The Lord’s Acre, Oct 6th, Noon
