Hello Beekeepers,
We hope this newsletter finds you well and still abuzz with the excitement from our first meeting of the year. We were delighted to see familiar faces and newcomers alike as we kicked off 2024 with a fantastic presentation on winter maintenance and spring preparation by Dave Cowart and Jerry Wheeler.
Upcoming Meeting Details: Our next meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 5th, at Groce Methodist Church, 954 Tunnel Rd, Asheville. Join us at 6:30 pm to mingle with fellow beekeepers before the meeting starts promptly at 7:00 pm. Vice President Mary Liske will enlighten us about an intriguing invasive species affecting honey flavors, and everyone will have the opportunity to taste this unique honey. Spread the word to your fellow bee enthusiasts who want to learn about what may be coming our way!
Following that, we are excited to welcome Marc Eden, a Journeyman beekeeper, former BCBC president, and a DNPc in nursing research, who will guide us through the topic of “Resilience in Beekeeping.” As a beekeeper, you can be challenged in as many ways as your bees. Your resilience to adversity can be as important as their innate resilience. Marc will talk about the nature of resilience both in our honeybees and in ourselves…and how to cultivate that resilience.
Meet Marc Eden: Marc is not only a Journeyman beekeeper but also a nursing research professional dedicated to building resilience in new nurses. He teaches at Mars Hill University’s nursing program and works at Mission Hospital. Currently pursuing his Master Beekeeper certification, Marc brings a wealth of knowledge to our community.
