January 6th BCBC meeting Groce United Methodist Church

Hello BCBC members,
I hope that 2020 will be a great year with all your bee keeping endeavors..We will be having our first meeting of the year on January 6th at the Groce United Methodist Church Tunnel Road Asheville. Meetings start at 7:00 but we encourage you to come early to talk with your fellow club members.
We will be starting the year off with a talk and class on mead making..Here is a little about the speaker and her talk:

Amber Shehan from Pixie’s Pocket as she guides you through the steps it
takes to start a small batch of mead, how to know when it is ready to
bottle, and the bottling process. This demonstration is great for anyone
interested in learning to brew mead, from beginners to advanced.

As
we brew a batch of mead together, Amber will go in-depth into the main
ingredients to make a simple mead: honey, water, and yeast. We’ll also
cover yeast nutrients, how to add fruit and herbs to the process, and
other things that sound more complex than they are. Don’t worry! It’s
easy. We’ll have you brewing in no time!

Amber is the author of
Artisanal Small-Batch Brewing (June 2019) and the founder of
Pixiespocket.com, where you can find more mead and country wine recipes
as well as articles on herbalism, fermentation, and other wild magic.

Also if you want a chance to be entered into the Black Jar Honey contest we will be having our club contest. If you are chosen BCBC will pay for your entry and pay for the 3 jars of honey needed to enter.’
Please bring honey to sample for the panel of Judges as well as 3 one pound jars of your honey, so that if you are the winner I can get them over to CHBR right away. You will need to have labels on two of the jars so they can be identified and one jar free of any label.
I hope that your holiday was peaceful and time well spent with family and friends. Have a safe and healthy New Year see you all in 2020. Please do not forget to renew you membership to BCBC.
