Join the Buncombe County Beekeepers Club on June 3rd for an exciting panel discussion on sustainable beekeeping. Gain insights, tips, and tricks from some of the most experienced and master beekeepers in Western North Carolina.

Smoker Competition: Kickstart the meeting with a fun and competitive smoker competition. Bring your smoker and favorite fuel to see who can keep their smoker going the longest. The winner will receive an award and a prize. For beginners, there will be demonstrations on achieving the perfect cool smoke for hive inspections.

Panel Discussion: Engage in an insightful discussion with local beekeeping experts:
Janet Peterson: Retired elementary school teacher and Master Beekeeper, Janet manages Cloud 9 Farm in Fairview, featuring vacation rentals, an event center, and two acres of berries pollinated by her honeybees.
Scott Davis: Starting his beekeeping journey in 2010, Scott is a NCSBA certified Master Beekeeper and former president of Buncombe County Beekeepers. He runs Garren Creek Apiaries LLC, managing around 24 hives and offering apiary services that installs/manages/designs apiaries for others. He is currently one of 4 western NC regional Directors for the NCSBA, covering the area from black mountain west to Robbinsville and Murphy.
John Wood: An anthropologist, former journalist, and UNC Asheville professor. He’s spent much of his life in Africa working with camel-herding nomads. John has a rich background in beekeeping. His father was a beekeeper, so John grew up helping his Dad move bees and extract honey. He has hives in Montford, Leicester, and Reems Creek.
Greg Rogers: With 42 years of experience, Greg operates Haw Creek Honey Company, managing 350-400 hives focused on honey production and apple pollination. He recently conducted a research project on oxalic acid-glycerin sponges with NC State University.
Dave Cowart: Beekeeping since the 1970s, Dave manages 14 hives in Sandy Mush, Leicester, and Old Fort. Known for his mentorship, Dave offers hands-on experience and is a valuable resource for the community.

Buncombe County Bee Club (BCBC) is one of the longest standing clubs in North Carolina dedicated to the support of beekeepers and the art of Beekeeping. We are a chapter of the North Carolina State Beekeepers Association (NCSBA). BCBC was formed exclusively for its members to pursue together all matters relating to honeybees and the beekeeping industry, for the benefit of the members and the general public.
